"I’m very proud that I did it my way and in my time," Tia Mowry said, revealing her 68-pound weight loss after giving birth to her second child, Cairo, two years ago.
The actress says she took her time losing the weight and didn't feel rushed to "snap back" and instead enjoyed breastfeeding and spending quality time with her kids. She echoed the pressure that most women feel after birth and instead offers encouragement and inspiration, "Do YOU! Do what makes YOU proud and do it in YOUR time. Not anyone else’s. ❤️.”
This isn’t the first time Tia has spoken out about the pressure.
“I was called fat during my pregnancy and I was called fat after my pregnancy,” she wrote. “Why do we do this to each other? Instead of love one another other? I will never understand that.” Tia said at the time that she’s “intentionally” being open about her journey “to show #women that it’s okay to go at your own pace, it is okay to love yourself no matter where you are in your journey.”
After conceiving, growing, laboring and delivering a tiny human, it’s easy for new moms to overlook the incredible physical feat that is pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery and hyper focus on stretch marks, loose skin, changed breasts or a few extra pounds.
Dropping preconceived notions around what a postpartum body should look like—and approaching the time period with an open mind and acceptance—can help you reshape the way you perceive your body.
